External Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of numerous alumni and friends of the college, scholarships are available to students in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning.


External scholarships are provided by organizations not associated with the College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning. Application requirements and deadlines vary. Please view each scholarship’s description for more information.

External Scholarships

Various scholarships sponsored by the 3 Arts Scholarship Fund, Inc are available for junior and senior women in DAAP who exhibit exceptional talent. Scholarship is due January 15, 2021. See website for additional information and application:

Through the generous support of UC’s alumni community, the UC Alumni Association awards more than $100,000 each year to approximately 50 exceptional UC students.

Current and incoming students are considered for four distinct scholarship opportunities, two of which benefit direct descendants of UC alumni.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation offers a variety of scholarships, including a highly-selective scholarship for the nation’s top community college students seeking to complete their bachelor’s degrees at selective four-year colleges or universities. The Tile Contractors’ Association of America (TCAA) will award a $5,000 scholarship to a qualifying student who at the time of application is working toward an undergraduate or graduate level professional degree in Architecture or Interior Design; and a $5,000 scholarship to a qualifying family member of an employee of a TCAA contractor member company, in accordance with eligibility criteria and application instructions.

Architects Foundation is a philanthropic partner of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) and offers several scholarships to students in NAAB-accredited undergraduate and graduate architecture programs. To further promote diversity in the field of design, TiER1 Performance is offering a TiER1 Diversity in Design Scholarship. A limited number of one-year scholarships in the amount of $2,500 will be awarded to offset the student’s tuition at their current academic institution. Additionally, the scholarship recipients will be offered a paid internship at TiER1 for a minimum of one semester or summer.

Eligibility 
A Scholarship applicant must:

  • Be a full-time current Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior student seeking a Bachelor of Communication Design from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S. for an indefinite period of time
  • Be of Black or African American, Hispanic, Asian American, American Indian race or ethnicity
  • Have above a 3.0 GPA
  • Submit the following information:
  • Resume and portfolio link;
  • Completed application;
  • One letter of recommendation;
  • Personal Statement (maximum of 300 words) addressing what you believe demonstrates your qualification for the TiER1 Diversity in Design Scholarship including, potentially, a description of your academic and personal strengths and/or how you hope to use your design talent to make a difference in the world.

The Hyde Park Square Art Show awards a $2,500 Scholarship Award that will be applied to the recipient’s senior year fall term tuition. Information is typically released in the spring. The Mensa Education & Research Foundation is a philanthropic, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization committed to the pursuit of excellence in human intelligence. The mission and strategic focus are directed at scholarships, education and awards.

The Greater Cincinnati Chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) offers a scholarship to recognize outstanding gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, intersex and straight supportive students in the local community. Information is typically released in the spring.

Miscellaneous scholarship opportunities may be found through your home/residence AIA Chapters, both city and state.

The Structural Engineering/Architecture Student Scholarship Program offers scholarships to support education and encourage the design and building of safer structures in our communities.
