SOD Scholarships

This scholarship is available exclusively to those entering the third year of study (pre-junior) in fashion design. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and have completed all first- and second-year requirements.

In recognition and remembrance of former DAAP student, Adam A. Clapp, this scholarship was created to recognize a student studying Communication Design that demonstrates the values that Adam embodied during his lifetime: perseverance, determination, poise, integrity, courage, endurance, and humor.

The recipient must be a current, full-time pre-junior or junior level student majoring in Communication Design.

The recipient must have demonstrated financial need and special consideration will be given to a student who demonstrates (or has demonstrated) incredible resolve in the face of adversity.

This scholarship is established in the memory of Diane Naegel. Recipient will be a student studying fashion design who demonstrates excellence in the area of children's wear and/or accessories, has a GPA of 3.0. Special consideration will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

This scholarship is established in the memory of Elise Sambur, a graduate of the Industrial Design program.

Scholarships are awarded annually to one or more outstanding rising seniors in Industrial Design, as determined by the faculty.

Applicants will be considered on potential for professional service in industrial design as determined by performance in studio courses, co-op work experience, strength of character, academic standing, and financial need.

The Frances D. and Stanley Cohen Scholarships are awarded to students of good character who have shown enthusiasm, a desire to succeed in their fields, a consistently strong academic record, and financial need. Eligible recipients must be studying Communication Design, Fashion Design or Industrial Design and be at least a sophomore, have at minimum a 3.0 GPA, and have demonstrated financial need.

This fund was established in honor of Professor Gerry Michaud and is to be awarded annually to a student studying Industrial Design with demonstrated financial need. Preference will be given to a student entering the second year of the program.

The Institute of Packaging Professionals (IoPP) is proud to offer academic scholarships to recognize exceptional college students headed for a career in packaging. The scholarships have been created to support packaging education and to raise awareness of packaging as a career choice. The scholarships are funded by founding supporters, including the Minnesota, Texas and Chicago IoPP chapters and IoPP benefactor companies. As an added bonus, the top talent identified through this program will be shared with IoPP Benefactor companies as a recruiting tool for their organizations.

Candidates must be current pre-juniors or juniors (to be juniors or seniors next year) in good academic standing and specializing in packaging design. Preference will be given to students with demonstrated financial need.

The purpose of the Jay Ott Memorial Scholarship is to reward students who demonstrate the values most important to Jay. Jay was a lifelong learner with acute self-awareness who knew at an early age that he would become a fashion designer. He had a reverence for contemporary and historical designers and studied both with unparalleled dedication. While at DAAP, Jay inspired his teachers and peers with his elegant aesthetic, his ability to provide perceptive and thoughtful feedback to other students, and his ability to apply his knowledge of art and design history. Throughout his successful career as a designer in NYC, Jay continued to inspire and support DAAP faculty and students through friendship, his role as a guest critic, and providing co-op opportunities at the companies he worked. The values Jay embodied and encouraged in others include intelligence, curiosity, integrity, empathy, diligence, humor and compassion.

Eligibility 

• Award shall be given annually to a current, fulltime, pre-junior or junior level student majoring in fashion design.
• Recipient must have a 3.2 or higher GPA. 
• Exhibits eagerness to learn and to improve as a designer.
• Offers original and thought-provoking solutions to course assignments.
• Executes their ideas with integrity and attention to detail.
• Dedicated to improvement and experimentation in communication of ideas, including 2-dimensional form.
• Exhibits depth in inspiration and thought process backed up by research across disciplines.
• Demonstrates awareness of their personal strengths, identity and goals as a designer.
• Demonstrates mentorship, collaboration and working as a constructive team member and invests time in supporting peers.

Requirements
In addition to the DAAP scholarship application requirements, you must also submit a 10 Page Process Journal and/or Design Diary for one to three project(s) that demonstrates the criteria for this scholarship. The process within this journal must have been created during your time as a student at DAAP. You may use any medium or combination of mediums to express and communicate your creative process work including written notes, collages, sketches, photos, etc. This journal should focus on documenting the way you learn, work, find inspiration, translate your worldview, and make fashion design decisions.

This scholarship was established in memory of DAAP alumna Katie Aring. Eligible recipients will be a current pre-junior or junior student (to be junior or senior student next academic year) in the Industrial Design program who is of the highest academic caliber. Preference to be given to a student from northeast Ohio.

The Kelly Kolar & David Eyman Scholarship was established to provide meaningful scholarship support students in the School of Design. The scholarship will be awarded based on merit; financial need is not required.

The family established this scholarship in honor of Lois Lynn Budde Dougherty who died from AIDS at a very early age. With this award, the family wishes to make visible to students the consequences of AIDS – a largely preventable disease, affecting all segments of the population, including heterosexual women.

Scholarships will be awarded to full-time female students showing promise in the field of Fashion Design who need assistance with tuition or educational travel expenses.

This fund was established in honor of Professor Margaret Voelker-Ferrier and is to provide scholarship funds for a rising senior in the fashion design program to help offset the cost of supplies needed for their senior thesis. Recipient must have a minimum 3.2 GPA and demonstrate financial need.

This endowed scholarship was established in memory of Martha Steinkamp Sherman and is to be used to support a fashion design student. Recipient must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. Financial need is not required.

This fund was established to assist a full-time Fashion Design student with expenses associated with a co-op placement outside of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. Recipients must have a minimum 3.2 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and a co-op placement outside of the Cincinnati metropolitan area.

This scholarship fund was established to provide scholarship support for Communication Design students in financial need. Special consideration is given to students in under-represented college populations.

The Robert Probst Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance to students in the Communication Design program at the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning. Recipient must demonstrate stellar academic performance and have financial need.

This scholarship is to support students in the School of Design.

This fund provides scholarships to students studying Fashion Design in DAAP. One scholarship will be awarded each year to a rising senior to offset the cost of supplies needed for their senior thesis. The recipient needs to have a minimum 3.2 GPA and must have demonstrated financial need.

This fund provides scholarships to students studying full-time in the School of Design in DAAP.

This fund will provide a scholarship to a full-time, undergraduate student majoring in Industrial Design. The recipient must have demonstrated financial need.
